The Grey Strand

Refunds and cancelling

how to get your money back

Updated 8 October 2026.

The short version

Ask within 14 days of paying and you get your money back. No questions, whether you used what you bought or not. After that, I’ll still refund a billing mistake, or anything you paid for that never worked, any time. And nothing here takes away rights you have under the law where you live.

Game passes

No Wrong Place for 30 days, $5; both games for 30 days, $7.50; five visits to The Grey Beyond’s detailed Earth, $5. Each is one payment through Stripe. Nothing renews, so there is nothing to cancel. Ask within 14 days for a full refund.

Tarot readings

Readings aren’t sold any more. If you bought one on Ko-fi before, you can still redeem it in the Mirror, and the rules above still cover it. Ko-fi refunds the whole amount to the way you paid.

Tips, once or monthly

A tip is a gift and buys nothing, so there’s nothing to refund. If you sent one by mistake, say the wrong amount or twice, write to me and I’ll send it back. A monthly tip renews until you cancel it: on Ko-fi, open your account settings, find it under Subscriptions and choose Don’t Renew, or cancel it in PayPal if you paid that way.

Substack sells, bills and renews the paid newsletter, and it renews until you cancel. Cancel any time at substack.com/settings: choose The Grey Strand, then Manage subscription. You keep paid access until the end of the period you’ve paid for. Substack doesn’t refund the rest of a cancelled period, but I can: if a charge surprised you, a renewal you meant to cancel, say, write to me within 14 days of it and I’ll refund it. If you subscribed in Substack’s iPhone app, Apple billed you, so cancel and ask for a refund through Apple.

Books

My books are sold by Amazon, and Amazon’s own return policy applies.

How to ask

Write to [email protected] with what you bought, roughly when, and the email you paid with, or your Stripe receipt or Ko-fi order number. Refunds go back to the way you paid. A card refund through Stripe usually takes 5 to 10 business days to show up.

Before you dispute a charge

Please write to me first. It’s usually faster, and a dispute costs me a fee even when it goes your way. You always keep the right to dispute a charge with your bank or card company.

Your rights

This policy adds to your rights under consumer law. It never takes them away.
